Without going into all the boring details, I had to create a new Birchbox account. I was actually pretty ok with this; from what I remember, I didn’t have a lot of points left, and that would’ve been the only reason to save my old account.
The last time I got a box was about 2 or 3 years ago, when I was still in college. I was working less hours at my student job, and the extra $10 a month in savings seemed like a good idea. But now I have a full-time job, and I decided to subscribe again.
There are 3 different designs for the September Birchbox, and I do really like the one I received.. On the little pamphlet you get it says you can decorate the box you get, but I kind of like just leaving it black, white, and gold. Anyways, onto the samples:
I only got 1 haircare sample this month: Briogeo Rosarco Milk Reparative Leave-In Conditioning Spray ($20). Damn, that’s a long name. From the description…”infused with argan, rosehip, and coconut oils, this does-it-all spray strengthens, adds shine, and leaves strands feeling oh-so-soft.” I’m about all of those things. It smells really good, and I’m excited to try this!
Lots of skincare items this month!
First we have the Avene 3 in 1 Make-Up Remover ($20). You massage this into your skin, and then remove with a cotton pad. Makeup removers that don’t involve water are my favorite, and this little sample looks like it’ll be great for traveling with. I’ve also heard really good things about this brand, but haven’t tried any of their products yet.
Next up we have the Marcelle New-Age 8-in-1 Power Serum ($37). The description says…”this lightweight peptide-packed gel starts to work in just one week. It fills in fine lines, lifts and firms, all the while boosting radiance and improving skin’s texture.” I don’t really have any fine lines, or anything that needs lifting or firming. But I can always use some radiance and texture improvements. It says you use this morning and night, but it’s kind of a small tube. So the claim that it works in just one week better be true, otherwise you won’t really be seeing much difference.
The last skincare item was a little surprising, and makes me a little nervous. The Wilma Schumann Mouth & Lips Age-Defying Masque ($22 for 5) is like a face mask…for your lips. It contains hyaluronic acid and collagen, so it’s supposed to help with fine lines and dryness. I never really though that my mouth/lip area needed anything except for a good lip balm, so this will be an EXPERIENCE.
I actually only really received one makeup item; I got this Smashbox liquid lipstick as a free add-on. But let’s talk about this highlighter first. It’s the Glamazon Stick Highlight Crayon ($12) from The Beauty Crop. I’ve never heard of this brand before, and this cream color is BEAUTIFUL. However, because my skin is basically computer-paper white, I think it would be a little too dark to use as a highlight. I think it would be great on the eyes, though.
I’ve never tried any of Smashbox’s liquid lipsticks, let alone their METALLIC ones. I’ve actually never tried any metallic liquid lipstick before. And to be honest, I’m a little terrified. I got the Crimson Chrome shade ($24), and this red color looks like something I can pull off (maybe). I think I’ll save it for Christmas time, though. It might be a little more appropriate around then.
Anyone else get boxes from Birchbox? What did you think of this month’s samples? Lemme know!
