Wishlist – Summer Dress Edition

I have to admit, I’ve never been a summer person. My skin reacts pretty badly to heat, and I hate the feeling of being sticky and sweaty. Maybe it’s because I’ve never known a summer without humidity (which makes things worse), but it’s my least favorite season. I’d rather be bundled up in a sweater sipping on some hot tea than outside in 95 degree weather.

Anyways, because of this, I kind of hate shopping for summer clothing. But I’m trying to be more on top of it, instead of waiting until it starts being hot as balls outside and I have nothing in my closet but sweaters and jeans. And right now, I’m starting with dresses.

I’ve narrowed it down to a few silhouettes I know I’ll look good in, and then specific fabrics that will do well in the heat (i.e. me sweating bullets).

Tee Shirt Dresses

Ah, the good ol’ tee shirt dress. These are so great because you can just throw them on and instantly look put together. I already have 3 in my closet, although for some reason 2 of those are black and white striped…

Linen

The one item I currently don’t have any of: linen dresses. Linen is really great during the warmer months, since they way it’s woven allows for more air flow. And I am ALL about that for summer time. I’ll definitely be buying at least one linen dress before the end of the month.

Wrap Dresses

And last but not least: wrap dresses. Personally, wrap dresses are one of the only styles of dresses that look good on me. I think it’s the whole cinching in the waist deal. These are typically my go to, especially for the summer.

Glossier Lash Slick | A Review

Glossier is just one of those brands that keeps sucking me in to buy their products. The only things I don’t have from their makeup collection are the new Lidstars, the lip gloss, and certain colors of different products.

I was actually completely surprised about their Lash Slick coming out – maybe I just didn’t notice anything about it before it was launched? Whatever the reason, I immediately ordered it when I saw Glossier’s introductory Instagram post.

After trying it out for a couple of weeks, I can safely say that this is one of my favorite mascaras.

Glossier Lash Slick

From their website:

248 formulations later: the perfect everyday mascara. Lash Slick curls and sculpts as it lengthens, enhancing the look of your natural lashes instead of clumping them together or spackling them in product. Teeny-tiny fibers coat lashes from root to tip to create a lengthened baby-extension, while flexible film-forming polymers lift and lock each fiber into place. And it’s water-resistant (not waterproof), so Lash Slick washes off easy with warm water at the end of your day.

That’s a lot of formulations! I love how much thought and effort Glossier puts into the making of their products.

Anyways, on to the review. So like the quote from their website states, this is a lengthening mascara. I’ve read that it was made to mimc the look of false eyelashes. I naturally have somewhat long eyelashes, so I’m one of those people who look for mascaras that bring a lot of volume (L’oreal Lash Paradise is my HG for those purposes).

Glossier Lash Slick

But I’ve been pleasantly surprising when I find myself reaching for the Lash Slick for my everyday makeup routine. Since summer is basically here in Virginia, I’ve been wearing a lot less makeup than I normally do, so maybe that has something to do with it. There’s something about the way this makes my eyes look more awake, in a very natural way. I’ve never really had a problem with mascaras smearing or smudging during the day, but I’ve heard that the Lash Slick is great at battling that.

At $16 a pop, it is a lot more pricey than what I normally shell out for mascaras, but so far I’m absolutely loving it. Glossier really can’t do wrong, can they?

Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette – Natural Beauty | A Review

I have spent years drooling over Charlotte Tilbury products. The packaging, the quality, the amazing reviews…all very up my alley. What was NOT up my alley, was the price tag.

$34 for a lipstick? I’m sorry, what?

But a month or so ago I gave in, and purchased a number of things off the website. One of the main things I wanted to get was one of her Instant Look in a Palettes. I was completely torn between the Natural Beauty and Seductive Beauty palettes, but I finally decided on the Natural Beauty palette. It was the first in the series, and I had a good feeling that the colors would work with my pale skin tone.

It was like Christmas when I opened that package (I also got the Classic Pencil in Audrey, and the Pillow Talk lip kit). Everything was wrapped up beautifully, and I legitimately didn’t want to open anything because I didn’t want to destroy the packaging.

So I had very high expectations for this. I do SO MUCH research before buying a product, and I read tons of reviews that just raved about this palette.

The Good
  • I love how simple this makes your makeup routine. It has everything you need in a neat little compact, and you don’t have to worry about making different products work well together. And the mirror is HUGE!
  • Piggy-backing on the simple aspect, every pan is numbered and labeled, so you know exactly what each pan is and where to put it.
  • I’ve used this almost every day since I’ve gotten it, which is really saying a lot. It’s great for an every-day makeup look (especially if you work in a professional workplace environment), and you can easily use it to transition into a night look, as well.
  • I have yet to do his, but I’ve read that it’s really handy to travel with. It’ll definitely cut down on the amount of products you bring with you.

The Bad
  • Having VERY pale skin, I feel like the bronzer is a tad too orange/dark for me. I can definitely make it work, but the bronzer in the Seductive Palette looks like it’ll suite me better.
  • The pans for the blush shades are just too damn small. I have to use a not very wide brush just so I don’t get any of the bronzer/highlighter along with it.

In the end, I’m very happy I invested in this and will continue to use this (probably most days!). I definitely have my eyes on the Seductive Palette for my next order!

On Motivation & Not Giving Up

I’ve been trying to write this post for a while now, and I can never seem to actually finish it. This is the first year where I’ve been hit with a kind of seasonal depression (although I’m not entirely sure that’s what it was). Motivation just flew out the window for me. I didn’t want to do anything really, let alone work on this blog.

And looking back at my life, I realized that I kind of have a problem with starting things and then giving up. This is the third blog I’ve started. It’s not like the other two blogs were on different topics; I just felt that they weren’t perfect and instead of pushing myself to keep working on them, I gave up. And then I would have the itch to start again and the whole process repeated itself.

Motivation - Edison

About a week ago I finally started to feel better, more motivated. I’ve been walking around my neighborhood whenever it feels nice out. I’ve been keeping my apartment more clean and organized than it’s been in the past few months. Going to the gym and working out has become less daunting, and I’m beginning to enjoy it more. And now I’m finally sitting down and writing this all out.

The whole reason I’m writing this post is, honestly, just for me. I needed to realize that nothing in this world has to be perfect, and things will get better over time. So, now, I’m making a promise to myself: don’t give up. Keep going. And remember that motivation comes from inside you, and you CAN do this.

The Christmas Pajamas Post | Blogmas Day 6

Hello, friends! Welcome to Blogmas Day 6! (Blogmas Day 5 here)

Blogmas Day 6

It’s always been a tradition for my mother to get my sister and I new pajamas for Christmas. Side note: do you say paJAMas or paJAmas? I definitely say it the second way.

Anyways, it’s only been for the past couple of years that my mom has actually ASKED us what PJs we want. Before she either made them herself, or just went out and got what she though we would like. The trouble with that was, I have very different tastes from my mother in terms of style. So letting us pick our own has been A LOT better.

So making this post has been very beneficial to me, and I’m most definitely sending my mother a couple of this links… 🙂
